Scientists and researchers refer to individuals or organisations (private, public or not profit) whose principle activity involves conducting research requiring technical expertise about nanotechnology, such as nanoscientists and technologists as well as social scientists with an interest in nanotechnology.
NANO2ALL will make scientists and researchers more aware of the concept of responsible research and innovation (RRI) as well as of its advantages for their activities and will provide them with RRI tools and best practices.
Through NANO2ALL they will also work together with different societal groups to discuss important issues which arise from the use of nanotechnologies. This cooperation will allow them to become aware of and understand the perceptions and concerns of other members of the society in this regard, and develop their research considering the future positive and negative impacts of their activities.
This will also allow the prevention of any unintended consequences of their research conducted into nanotechnologies already in an early stage. On the other hand, the deliberation about the use of nanotechnology will provide researchers and scientists with a platform to express their views and transmit their knowledge to other groups, creating more overall transparency and enhancing public confidence in nanotechnologies.
Their involvement will also contribute to the design of an innovation agenda with innovation trajectories that are most likely to advance into responsible nanotechnology applications, and the definition of actions required to enhance societal engagement in nanotechnologies. Researchers´ and scientists´ participation in this initiative will also let them create stronger links with other societal groups and help establish international research cooperation in responsible nanotechnology.
